Grandeur of the Black-tailed Godwit
In Italian, 'IL' means 'the'. In other words, it translates to: the black-tailed godwit. By using this name, we maintain the connection with Italy, which we personally have no issue with. What a beautiful country it is! By calling it "IL Grutto," we immediately give it the grandeur of this magnificent bird, a Dutch iconic meadow bird that doesn’t shy away from endurance flights. With somewhat beautiful but not overly striking colors, this bird is anything but dull. Even its scientific name, Limosa Limosa, is spectacular.
The color grey was chosen so that anyone can wear a black-tailed godwit. It complements any outfit and bike. A way to always ride in style and with safety on the bike.
The name of this sock came about through a special social media campaign. First, our black-tailed godwit followers were invited to suggest names freely. From a long list of names, we selected four strong candidates. Then, an open vote was held to choose the preferred name. With a clear majority, the name "IL Grutto" was chosen.
This name brings together the majesty of the bird, the allure of Italy, and the versatility of a timeless, unisex design.
